Thanks Global Warming. Without you, April may see snow and inclement weather…

I just watched the Twilight movie. I don’t get it; maybe it’s because I’m  a guy, or just an adult, but that was without question the dumbest movie I have ever had the misfortune to watch. If it weren’t for the fact that I am on a plane with no opportunity to flee, I would have run out during the scene when Edward first appears. I just had 2 hours of my life stolen!

For months now all I have heard from any woman who has seen Twilight is, “It was really good!” Did they watch a different version? Maybe they really didn’t see the movie, but just used it as an excuse to get out of the house with their friends? Seriously…seriously?!

It was horrible! The effects were bad, the acting was poor, and the plot was well, nonexistent. But the experience was not all bad: the meal in First Class was better than the typical movie menu, and the movie was only 2 hours long instead of 2 hours and 1 minute.

To all my female family and friends: I apologize now, for I am afraid that after I post this I will never be forgiven.

I think I’ll watch Iron Man when I get home tonight.

What you may find interesting though, is the conversation I had with one of the Hall & Partner researchers at dinner (the meal was fantastic by the way). First a little background. With one exception, everyone at Ogilvy and Hall & Partners that is working on this project are not Mormons, nor did they know anything about Mormons or the LDS Church before this project. This researcher identifies herself as agnostic, even though she was raised Catholic including attending Catholic School as a child, but has not been interested since before college. I would estimate her to be 23-27 years of age. She is a working professional, very intelligent, and VERY uninterested in religion; a true agnostic.

Okay, sorry…on to the conversation, which began something like this: “Can I ask you a couple of questions that I have been curious about? Is that okay, I don’t want to offend you?” “Sure,” I said. She then begins asking me about polygamy, Mormon culture, Mormon families, Word of Wisdom, what it’s like to have a calling, how much time I serve in my calling, how my wife feels about my service, and finally: “Did you ever doubt anything you were taught?”

I took about 30 minutes to answer her questions, and we had a pleasant dialogue. At one point she looked at me and said, “You’re not that strange, I can see why you love your Church so much. I wish I could find something like what you have.” As we discussed her comments, a feeling of gratitude overwhelmed me. I was reminded how blessed I am to be Mormon; the feelings of community and love, added to the peace the gospel brings is truly a blessing.

I’m so happy that I’m “not that strange.”
